This is what our guests think

“It was an experience of a lifetime at La Taverna Al Monte, the house has breathtaking views over the country side. This is a true gem in Umbria, the building has been restored and decorated to a very high standard to provide great comfort and a peaceful atmosphere. Its hosts are charming and very welcoming. We are looking forward to our next stay to discover more of the Umbria region, which we believe it is more interesting than Tuscany. The house is perfectly located with a great terrace and garden, you’ll never want to leave the house.”

II had the most wonderful time at the Taverna al Monte. We arrived late at night, after a long journey and could not believe our eyes when we stepped into a beautiful building that has been so beautifully restored and redecorated. The Taverna is the epitome of luxury. Not just for the amazing way it has been furnished but also for the peace and the tranquillity of a tiny village where time seems to stand still. And yet the Taverna has all the modern comforts!!!

The magnificent views? The spectacular location? The amazing decor? The extraordinary attention to detail throughout the whole property? It is very difficult indeed, if not impossible, to describe in a few sentences the magic of the Taverna al Monte: the charm of the building itself and its phenomenally interesting history are more than enough to make me drop everything and jump on the very first plane to Italy to reach one of my favourite destinations in such a wonderful part of such a wonderful country. I had the pleasure to stay at La Taverna al Monte in Spring, in Summer, and in Autumn. I am now very much looking forward to staying again during the Winter season.

Spending time in Italy for a restorative 5-week transition trip before moving from one continent to another was always going to be a good idea. Spending most of said trip in Umbria was a great idea. Spending most of that time at La Taverna Al Monte was pure genius. We had a serene journey, driving from Rome on a hot, glorious day. Finally making our way up the winding roads, we neared Monte Santa Maria Tiberina and could make out the majestic promontory that was our goal. Our arrival was a real reward, greeted by a delicious coolness within the village walls as we made our way to the entrance of what was to be our home for our stay. Beautiful light, ancient stone, timeless smiles of the welcoming neighbours, all was perfect. We entered and discovered, shouting out excited comments at each other as we ventured into rooms, each thoughtfully detailed and appointed to perfection, with the inimitable Spina elegance, style and humour. We dropped our bags and explored some more. Upon entering the generously proportioned kitchen, we smiled at the lovely, welcoming décor and looked forward to spending a lot of time experimenting and savouring the local produce and specialities. The elegant vestibule the kitchen opens onto led us to the clou du spectacle as we opened the door to the pool garden and took in the view. We spent every possible moment by the pool, or playing games in the drawing room in the evening, or lazing in our luxurious bedrooms, when we were not walking up to the village to have a meal or an apéritif, listening to music at the church or exploring the area. We went truffle hunting, celebrated the porchetta and danced at the village fête, visited markets, ancient villages and bustling towns nearby. We shopped, we walked, we ate – all unforgettably and deliciously. Breathtaking, awe-inspiring, moving – words do not do justice to describing the feeling of being present at Taverna Al Monte, standing in the venerable building after it has lived so many lives, under so many guises, and has now been allowed to blossom again under the loving, tasteful and uniquely gorgeous ministrations of Joe and Robbie. Their welcome is warm and generous, as considerate as it is discreet. It is a privilege to simply be, - a part of it all, sitting on the little balcony or by the pool or by the drawing room French windows and looking out, allowing the valley to offer itself and its curves to echo into the horizon.

Taverna Monte is my favourite long weekend break. Whatever the time of year there's always something to do, to see and to enjoy. The house, which is more than just 'a house', is incredibly spacious, beautifully furnished & extremely comfortable. Also there's a fab swimming pool & a huge terrace - perfect for simply staring into the hills beyond, reading, eating, partying, getting married....whatever! This leads out from the open plan living area so there's plenty of room for a big party or reception. We've had lots of fun there - even in late Autumn. The bedrooms are great too - I love 'my' room & ask for it every time I visit. It's got great style ( Robbie & Jo are award-winning, established decorators, so the decor is tweaked to perfection). I choose this room, overlooking the street, as I'm single & I always imagine someone might want to serenade is Italy after all!!

‘From the charm of the village, to the incredible warmth of the hosts and relaxed, stylish elegance of the house, I highly recommend this place. Owners Robbie and Joe have restored the building with such exquisite sensitivity, added their own beautiful design to create an incredible home and one that's hard to leave. And that's the point - it feels like a home away from home. If only my home looked like that.
Our bedroom was incredibly comfortable and quiet, the communal areas are spacious and light allowing guests to either be together or remain private as they wish. And breakfast on the big, open terrace is one of life's great delights - with the most amazing panoramic views. I would happily go back.’
